Telecom Operator Data Center Assessment, Egypt

UBIK assessed a 4 MW data center of a telecommunications operator in Egypt: technical condition, conformity and the options for optimisation.

Reference sheet, UBIK. The published figures and the services covered, highlighted on the lifecycle path.

In 2025 UBIK assessed a data center of 4 MW of IT load belonging to a telecommunications operator in Egypt: its technical condition, its conformity with the standards it was built to, and the options for optimising it. The operator’s identity is withheld.

The facility

A telecom operator’s data center carries the operator’s network as well as its IT, and it has usually grown over years of additions: new halls, new tenants, new generations of plant beside the old. The assessment’s first task is to establish what is installed and how it is connected, because the drawings describe the facility as it was designed and later additions are often missing from them. From that baseline the conformity question, the condition question and the optimisation question can each be answered.

Scope

  • Technical baseline: the installed power and cooling systems, their topology and their connections, verified on site against the drawings.
  • Condition assessment: age, service history, support status and failure consequence of the major plant.
  • Conformity review against the resilience objective and the standards the facility was built to, path by path and state by state.
  • Optimisation options: capacity headroom, energy performance at the real operating load, controls and staging, ranked by consequence and cost.

What the work had to resolve

Facilities that have grown by addition accumulate single points of failure that nobody designed: a header that serves two halls, a distribution board that feeds both paths, a bypass left in place after a maintenance window. The assessment traced each path from the utility intake to the rows and from the chillers to the halls, and listed what would have to change for the facility to behave as its resilience objective says it should.

The energy question was answered at the facility’s real load, where fixed losses dominate, rather than at its design load, and the options were sequenced so that each could be executed in a maintenance window with the facility in service.

Findings, options and the operator’s protected information are not published.
